Criticly is an AI-powered critical thinking toolkit that turns any selected text into instant critique, questions, and alternative perspectives. Users highlight text in any application — editor, browser, terminal, or PDF reader — and a floating bar appears beside the selection offering one-click access to seven thinking tools: interpret, analyze, evaluate, infer, explain, self-check, and quiz. These tools map to the six core critical-thinking skills defined by the APA's Delphi consensus, plus a quiz tool that turns selected text into flash cards.

Workflow

  1. Highlight any text in any app; a small bar floats up beside it.
  2. Choose a tool from the bar or press the hotkey (⌘⇧M on macOS, Ctrl+Shift+M on Windows) for the full palette.
  3. Read the streamed insight inline in about three seconds. Nothing is stored afterwards.

Key Features

  • Seven core thinking tools covering interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, self-checking, and quizzing.
  • Works across existing apps including Word, Outlook, Gmail, Chrome, Slack, Notion, Safari, VS Code, and Obsidian.
  • Supports 12 response languages.
  • Custom tool creation on paid plans (up to 20 per machine).
  • Supports OpenAI (GPT), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), and OpenRouter as AI providers.
  • Zero text storage after processing.

Use Cases

Drafts, textbooks, research papers, business memos, engineering RFCs, and news articles — wherever text lives, Criticly provides a sharper second read.

Platforms

macOS 10.15+ (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows 10+ (x64), also available on the Microsoft Store.
